Meet our Residents

Amy Kennedy, MD

I couples matched at UPMC with my husband – and one of the main draws for us was the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, as well as the strong reputation across multiple disciplines. The internal medicine faculty is dedicated to teaching a well-rounded curriculum and the residents are friendly and laid back, always going out of their way to help each other out! I chose to pursue UPMC's Global Health and Underserved Populations Track and am excited for all it has to offer! It is by far the most comprehensive global health program I looked at, with multiple rotations and research opportunities in the US and abroad. Coming from the West Coast, my husband and I have found Pittsburgh to be an affordable, friendly, and unique city and are looking forward to exploring it more!

I chose UPMC for residency because I wanted a program with a strong academic focus and a diversity of clinical experiences but in a city that felt friendly and easy to live in with my wife and two young children. I liked the breath of research going on, the strong division of general medicine, and the chance to train at a major academic hospital and a large VA. The residents I met felt down to earth but also sharp and engaging. Coming from a much bigger city I find it much easier to take advantage of what Pittsburgh has to offer in terms of museums, theatre, and entertainment. On a recent day off I was able to get out kayaking on the rivers, go shopping in the strip district, and spend half a day at the zoo with the kids.

As a medical student at Pitt, I was always impressed with the department of medicine being one of the most organized, rigorous, yet completely supportive departments. Expectations from faculty, mentors, and co-residents are consistently high yet everyone is always there to help each other grow like a true team. There is also a great deal of emphasis put on teaching from 4th year of medical school onward all the way up the chain which is why this program remains strong academically. I've been at Pitt for 8 years and counting now and haven't found a good reason to leave!

The Internal Medicine residency program at UPMC is unique in so many ways! On my interview day, it was obvious to me why the program ranks amongst the best. After completing medical school in India and my doctoral studies here in the US, I was keen on pursuing residency training at a program which fostered both clinical competence and research - UPMC was the perfect choice! The International Scholars Track here is definitely one of a kind and is truly aligned to build successful academic careers beyond the three years of residency training. There are also ample opportunities to pursue individual academic passions and interests, which was important to me, and great mentorship all along the way. Best of all, the faculty, fellows and residents here share a wonderful camaraderie and are very supportive of each other. As a result, the atmosphere is always charged with friendly enthusiasm, and I'm sure that will go a long way in making the (sometimes) bumpy ride through residency a lot more memorable and fun!
