Diversity and Inclusion Committee
The University of Pittsburgh Internal Medicine Residency Training Program is committed to recruiting, supporting and retaining outstanding residents from diverse ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds with the core belief that diversity drives excellence in the physician workforce. Our program has access to multiple resources to help foster an inclusive environment for trainees and faculty:
Our residents also have the opportunity to mentor medical students through our relationships with the University of Pittsburgh's chapters of SNMA and LMSA.
In an effort to increase the number of underrepresented minorities (URM) in our training program, we have created the UPMC Internal Medicine Residency Diversity Committee, chaired by Dr. Alda Maria Gonzaga. Our members include residents and fellows from all levels of training, and attending physicians from multiple divisions within the Department of Medicine.
The committee's main charge is to recruit, support and mentor URM trainees and help transition them to junior faculty and fellowship positions. Focus includes life in Pittsburgh, networking, mentorship and professional support.
