Our Mission

The University of Pittsburgh Internal Medicine Residency Training Program is committed to recruiting, supporting and retaining outstanding residents from diverse ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds with the core belief that diversity drives excellence in the physician workforce. Our residents also have the opportunity to mentor medical students through our relationships with the University of Pittsburgh's chapters of SNMA and LMSA.

Diversity Committee

In an effort to increase the number of underrepresented minorities (URM) in our training program, we have created the UPMC Internal Medicine Residency Diversity Committee, chaired by Dr. Alda Maria Gonzaga. Our members include residents and fellows from all levels of training, and attending physicians from multiple divisions within the Department of Medicine.

The committee's main charge is to foster an environment of acceptance and celebration of diversity, and to recruit and support trainees of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Focus includes life in Pittsburgh, networking, mentorship and professional support.
