At UPMC Shadyside, our program has proved successful in preparing our residents for careers in primary care medicine, hospitalist practice, and a wide variety of medical subspecialties in which a solid foundation in general internal medicine is invaluable.
The University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine offers fellowships in 11 different subspecialty areas. Each division of the department has an active research program in which Shadyside residents have historically participated, with subsequent publications and presentations at national meetings. Rotations on the Oakland campus provide our residents with opportunities to be mentored by nationally recognized faculty. Despite the increasingly competitive nature of fellowships, Shadyside residents have been successful in gaining fellowships in all of the subspecialties listed here.
