Career Goals: Hematology/Oncology

Why I Chose UPMC Shadyside: The UPMC Shadyside program stood out in a number of key aspects. This is a unique program that offers a holistic learning experience from the bread and butter case mix to the more complex cases seen in a tertiary care setting. With a keen interest in hematology/oncology and/or palliative care, the opportunities and resources provided by the Hillman Cancer Center conveniently located here at Shadyside was a key attraction. Within the program, I have found my colleagues to be a wonderful, down-to-earth bunch, and this experience is further enhanced by a conducive environment that facilitates learning. Importantly, Pittsburgh has been a vibrant, midsize city where one could enjoy the comforts of city living as well as the adventures offered by the great outdoors that is within easy reach. In terms of research, it must be highlighted that UPMC is amongst the top recipients of NIH funding, a common surrogate used to gauge research activity of any institution.
